A family story

This is a family story about Fernando & Mariano visiting Kengis Bruk for the first time in 2024

“I wanted to share an unforgettable experience my father and I had while fishing for salmon in Kengis. We were beyond excited about the trip, hoping to catch a big one together.”

“Though the countless salmons managed to evade us despite our days and late nights out on the river, the journey itself became something extraordinary. Kengis Bruk is truly a breathtaking place- crystal-clear waters surrounded by lush forests and the kind of stillness that feels like a rare gift.”

“Mentored by a great caster, Aslak, we managed to develop our casting technique up to perfection (or at least that is what we thought hehe). Casting double speys at 01:00 in the morning with the sun on the verge of the trees, salmons head and tainling (gliding along the top of the water with their fins exposed) and the smell of the coffee heating in the fireplace, was truly one of those unforgettable as well as pacifying moments you rarely experience in life.”

“Even though we didn’t catch any salmon we never lost the thrill. Each time the line would tug, our hearts would race, thinking we’d landed the big catch, only to reel in a greyling or the trickiest of all, mother earth.”

“As I mentioned, the thrill of the chase never dulled, every cast brought with it new hope and excitement. Being there, working together and sharing long nights under the Swedish sky was something special and very difficult to put into words.”

“We’re already talking about heading back next season, ready for another try and hoping for better luck. No matter what we catch next time, I know it’ll be just as incredible.”

“Last but not least, it is very important to mention the delightful accommodation of Kengis Bruk. The cabin cannot get cosier than it is, with everything and even more than you will need throughout your stay. In addition, being walking distance from the river, we could just wake up to the sound of it, and in 5 minutes you could put on your waders and be in of the most mesmerising rivers in the world.”

“The dream of any fisher. I would also like to give a shout out to the unbeatable company of Kengi’s staff which couldn’t be more welcoming and professional.”
