Week 26 Costa del Kengis
Last week at Kengis we had people from all over the world fishing. It is fantastic that our small operation far up north in Sweden can draw people from all over the world to chase the dream of a big baltic salmon. This week our guests was from USA, Argentina and UK.
What looked like a warm and almost impossible week turned out to be quite good when our guests started to search the faster running water. But first our guests faced the northern heat. A heatwave passed Kengis Bruk and we needed to switch around on day and night in order to find lower temperatures.
Blue skies all over this week at Kengis Bruk. Getting ready for the night shift and finding shade at our lodge. The fish was really cautious and we had some drags in our flies in our normal pools. But we realized that we needed to search for them in faster water. Our host this week, Conor Arnold took the guests to the fast water and that did the trick for us this week.
Richard was the first to crack the code with the baltic salmon and then they started to show interest in our flies. Just after Richard, Chris felt the power of the strong baltic salmon. Good to see the smiles all over.
Richard got another one. It’s always hard work to catch a baltic salmon and even harder in difficult conditions. Then Diego and Peter got their chance to feel the power.
Finally Peter landed a baltic salmon. Look at his face. Pure happiness. It’s in the net, look at the fish and then tell how you did it. Perfect memory for Peter.
This week we had a visit from our good friend Conor. He guided this weeks guests and it was a true pleasure to have him back. Here is some words from Conor about the week; “After a couple of years absence due to covid it was fantastic to be back in Kengis bruk. 6 new guests who I had never met before. Most of whom were very experienced anglers, all from different corners of the globe. It was a pleasure to guide for these guys, fish numerous different techniques and tactics and ultimately, to watch them get their first experience of the sheer power of Baltic salmon. Fish landed and fish lost but I think its safe to say we all made new friends during the trip. Look forward to the next visit.”
Baltic salmon fishing is something special.
Now we cross fingers for colder weather and look forward to next week.
Tight lines!
