Week 23 Salmon Marathon
What is a salmon Marathon? We need Einer to answer that question later in this blog.
Our friends from Denmark and Schweiz returned for another battle with early Baltic salmon at Kengis Bruk. It is a pleasure to welcome back our regular guests and share good moments and stories with Them.
This year the water level was low for the season. A high flood just before the season started due to the warm weather in the mountains made the water level drop fast.
That made fishing in 2023 a new experience for our friends. New ways to fish the pools and in the end of the week the powerline pool could be fished again. A good Way to learn about the pools in a new Way and a pleasure to see them develop as fishermen during their week at Kengis.
Once again we had small windows of activity. When the wind turned from north to south and we could skip the warm jackets we saw activity. Anders was the first to feel the power of a Baltic salmon. On the outside of Island pool (Bush Island) He hooked up with a fish that went straight to backing and the power made the 15’ bend all the way to the handle. There was sadly no chance for Anders to land this one.
Shortly after Aslak showed Thomas how to wade the powerline pool and not long after the start Thomas’ rod bended and He Said; “I Think it's a salmon” and it was.
95cm fresh fish and Thomas once again landed an early season fish at Kengis.
After a good fight the fish nutmegged Thomas before He could get a fast picture. After a bit of chaos there were smiles and hugs all over.
Shortly after the phone called in a pool downstream. “Einer has a Big one” and we needed to get the other guys out of the water. His backing Line kept flying past us when we got up to help him.
In the top of the powerline pool Einer hooked a Big Baltic salmon. He ran all the way to Bush Island pool and came to shore on the top of Savikuoppa and then the fight kept on going downstream. At the very end of Savikuoppa he managed to turn the fish and got to walk it in. What a great fight and well done by Einer.
The following days were again slow and the wind turned to the north again. The final Day it turned again and the guys sadly lost three fish in a Day.
It is such a fine line between lost and landed and sometimes the fish wins.
We look forward to welcoming you back next year!
Numbers are looking good in the river, but low water and sunny weather can make fishing difficult.
We are looking forward to welcoming new friends next week for an exciting week!
Tight lines!
