August 2016 update
Well 2016 has been one hell of season for the Torne river! Just shy of 100,000 fish registered in the system and seems many of the fish took the Torne / Lainio path of the river system this year. August finally gave us some rain and cooler days and a big push of fresh fish that stirred up all the pools. There were a real mix of fresh, semi fresh and resident fish landed and a healthy number of Grilse in all sizes.
The biggest fish of the season for Kengis finally came in the last few days of the season at 120cm long and 35lbs, a cock fish that would scare even the most seasoned salmon angler. Every year we see these fish holding at Kengis Bruk and it was only a matter of time before someone found one on the end of their line.
The season ended with 3 fish over 30lbs 20% of catches over 20lbs again and the vast majority of fish in the 12-18lbs region. Though not many big fish landed there are plenty of great memories of higher catch rates per angler, not something we usually focus on in the north of Sweden when fishing for Baltic Salmon but it was certainly a pleasure to experience and witness great fishing like this.
Looking towards the 2017 season we are pleased to be making further improvements to the fishing reducing rods down to 6 from 8 for a more exclusive stretch of fishing waters and we are now renovating the old Kengis School building into a lodge with much more spacious accommodation for our guests with large twin rooms, bathrooms, shower, kitchen and dining lounge area, with outdoor dining and shelters. The new lodge is situated right in the heart of the beat overlooking the rapids with a short walk either up or down river to the fishing.
Roll on 2017!
