Week 27 Welcome back
Once again we welcomed good friends back to Kengis Bruk.
Chance with his son Oscar, their family and friends and once again Jouni and Risto.
Things were set up for a great week and it was.
A good story has something good, bad and always ends well and that describes this blog quite well. Are you curious to hear the story?
First the good start; Emil got a fantastic fresh fish in the first days of the week! What a fish for him and a great start of the week for the group.
This week all contacts were again in the faster water and there our guests found the fish this week.
Then to the not so funny part of the story. And let’s start with some reality.
It is not looking to be the best year for the Torne river salmon. The fish are rising in smaller numbers than we are used to and that is something we will have in mind for the rest of our season. We will follow the development closely and when the season is over and we know for a fact how it all went we will sit down and try to find answers. It can be hare, but we will try. Looking at the number of fish rising in the river we need to remember that the op year was something special. Close to, or over 100.000 fish in the river system are extremely good. And even on the days with 10.000 fish running per day, the fishing was hard, remember that. So in reality we are looking at something between 50-80.000 fish is a “normal” year for Torne river. Of course we would like to have more fish in the whole system. It will benefit everyone around the whole river system.
At Kengis Bruk we have close to a 100% catch and release rate. All fish are fought hard and fast netted and taken well care of before letting them back. We are very careful with the first big fish that enters our river, because we know how important they are for the river. When we can't say a 100% rate is it because we will take a fish that is sick or hurt if we catch one of them.
So with all that in mind Jouni and Risto had a hard week. They fished all our Kengis water in search of a fish that would strike the fly, but this time they did not find it. It is the right spirit to have the fly in the water as much as possible and they did that. Thank you so much for your time and effort at Kengis and we hope to see you back again. We own you both a real Kengis Bruk salmon.
The last part of the week the other guys cracked the code and started to land the fish in the fast water. All the guys in the other group landed fish and everyone was happy.
And of course Oscar landed another salmon here at Kengis Bruk. He is starting to be a young Kengis salmon star, with fish landed every time he visits us.
In the end our guests landed 6 fish and lost more than 10 fish. If we look at the amount of fish in the river that is really good!
We are looking forward to seeing you back at Kengis again.
All focus on next week where we once again welcome old friends and new friends at Kengis Bruk.
Tight lines.
