We promised a big fish blog and here it is.
Last week we had Jörg-Petter, Andy, Greg, Darragh, Karl and Erik fishing at Kengis Bruk. Such a good group that all got into the Kengis feeling right away.
Such a pleasure hosting groups that don’t know each other and then find time to eat together, spend time on the riverbank and fish together. That is what it is all about.
As we said in the last blog, fishing is difficult. We don't have the amount of fish in the river we are used to and that of course makes it difficult, but this week we had good fishing if we look at the conditions.
Andy, Greg and Darragh were really having a good time and to see three friends enjoy our place and fishing that much makes us really happy. They lost more than 10 fish combined during the week and sadly no one landed for them, but that will come next year.
Jörg-Petter fished zone 1 all week and in the end he lost count of how many fish he had seen. Despite the low number, we still see quite many fish at zone 1 and we hope that they will stop and stay at Kengis. He enjoyed the river, silence, the fire and a cold beer. Great week for Jörg-Petter.
Karl and Erik has been in Kengis before. We met them in 2019 and back then the fishing was very difficult due to the warm weather, but this time they had a proper revenge. Karl did all he could and ended up with several lost fish and on the very last morning he lost the fish he should have landed. Only a bad knot was between him and his first Baltic salmon. He will be back and at some point he will land a Baltic salmon.
His son Erik is the one to tell a big fish story from Kengis this time.
Erik;“I had no idea what kind of fish I was dealing with until it first jumped a few minutes into the fight.”
Erik landed one of the mighty Torne river salmon and the biggest fish caught by a guest in many years from Kengis Bruk. 119,5 cm monster baltic salmon. No words can really describe this. A good mix of luck and skills from Erik made him land his fish of a lifetime at Kengis Bruk. To hear him tell the story and to see his father proud of his son is worth everything and we are happy to be a part of that story.
Thank you for your return Erik and Karl and big congrats with the achievement.
We will post a full big fish blog later in the season about the whole experience told by Erik, so stay tuned.
Next week is looking better weather wise and we cross fingers that it will have an effect on the fishing. It’s hard work, but that is salmon fishing.
Tight lines!
