Week 25 Silver, expectations & Andreas
Last week was one of the tough one for our guests. Numbers of fish rising in the river dropped a bit, so did the water level and the temperature was rising. Not the ideal conditions, but our guests fished hard and for one of our guests it was a special week.
After the arrival and presentation by our lodge manager and Lars the guests was ready to fish.
Andreas and Henke was the first ones to fish the mighty boat pool and after a rock, paper and scissor Henke started upstream and Andreas in Island pool. After a few cast Henke gets in contact with a baltic salmon, but sadly it was not hooked and got away. Short after Andreas was hooked up and fighted the first fish of the week.
The weather was almost too good to be salmon fishing, but they guests turned around on day and night and fished late evening, nighttime and early morning. The fish was not rising in the numbers we hoped for, but they came into the pools but when we saw them they was almost gone again. They were swimming really fast and did not stop for long time.
Jonah and Sam spend a lot of time by the river and had a good time with beautiful sunsets, food and fishing. At one point they caught an eid, a fresh water fish that sometimes strikes the fly like a salmon, gets heavy but then there is no fight. They asked our lodge manager Oscar if they could eat it. And as he said; " Yes of course, but it will maybe be first and last time you try it."
We don’t think they will ever try that again. It was not good at all. Then it's good to bring a good meal so you are ready to fish into the night.
As a guests you will always have high expectation for a week of fishing. Many thoughts will go thru your head before, during and after a stay. Most of the thoughts is about the mighty baltic salmon. Will it be there? will it strike our flies and will we land it? All guests are ready and you can feel it into the bones fishing your way in the pools. But in the end we can't control the fish. We don’t know if they will be here, will they bite and how many will be landed. One thing is for sure, it is the feeling we are chasing and that makes fishing trips hard to predict. We always hope that our guests get to feel the Kengis feeling. And it was nice to see big smiles among our guests in a week that was maybe not going as we expected.
Back to the fishing! The water dropped quite fast and it made it possible to fish som new places at Kengis. Andreas was once again lucky when he waded out and tried one of the new places.
Andreas has been in Kengis many times, but never hooked a fish at our water. To see him hook and land two fish in a hard week is just perfect. Well deserved Andreas.
All in all a good week with two landed fish and some contacts, but we cross fingers for bigger numbers rising and more fish showing up at Kengis. It looks promising for the weeks coming up, but will the weather help us? We never know.
Thank you to our guests! We hope to see you back at Kengis Bruk.
