Week 29 - Do you remember your first salmon?

A week we will remember as a week with a lot of fish showing, everyone getting better, new friends and a first salmon.

Let's start from the beginning.

We saw many fish moving if we look at the overall season. They started to show up at zone 1 (our zone above the Kengis rapids) And they still did this week. You can't be in the water without seeing fish on the move, but the big question; Will they stop or continue?

This week we had our intern Ville fishing the first days with us and Jacob, a young fly fisherman from Sweden and father and son, Fernando and Mariano from Spain and our good friend Simon from Denmark.

Ville:

What a joy to meet a young guy that just wants to fish, have fun and share good memories! We are proud to be a part of developing the next good salmon guides in this business. Thank you so much for choosing Kengis Bruk.

Simon:

Last time Simon visited Kengis we had a difficult week, and so was this last week. Sunny weather coming to the northern parts of Sweden is not making baltic salmon fishing any easier, but Simon did all he could and with long cast and the fly in the water all night he showed the real Kengis feeling and we look forward for his return and we cross fingers that next time he will get in contact with one of the strong baltic salmon.

Father and son - Fernando & Mariano:

We have said it before and will again; Welcoming family members to share good times at Kengis Bruk is special. Fernando and Mariano were new to salmon fishing, but they picked up fast. Casting lessons every day and tips and tricks shared at the water got them to be real salmon fishermen. It's A pleasure sending new fishermen out into the world of fly fishing knowing the things they need to do in order to catch a salmon. That will never be easy, but they are ready for the challenge and hopefully the reward when it happens.

Jacob:

Do you remember your first salmon? We are sure Jacob will!

Before the heat took over he fished the lower neck at zone 1. Saw a fish on the move and decided to change his setup. If you ask him today we think we would say that it was a crazy idea, but it worked. Adding a super fast poly leader was apparently what missed to get the fish to strike his fly.

Pocket call to our guide; “I am fighting a fish at the lower neck! "Can you come?”

Seeing our guide running the other way, screaming, realizing he got the net and just in time ran down, jumped in water in everyday clothing and netted the fish.

That was Jacob's first salmon and we guess he will remember that fish for some time.

Thank you guys for making our week a week of good memories.

Next week is looking difficult with warm weather coming in, but we will do our best, keep the flies wet and have fun.

Tight lines!
